A Portrait of a Graduate represents a school district's vision for the 21st century skills, character traits, and/or social-emotional competencies that students need to succeed in college, career, and life. According to such portraits, students should leave high school with a set of agreed-upon skills, such as communication, teamwork, creativity, and civic engagement ("More States are Creating a 'Portrait of a Graduate.' Here's Why." Edweek, December 11, 2023).
A survey was released to the Valdosta City School community on November 14, 2023 in which stakeholders were able to identify the top 10 traits they feel all VCS Seniors need to have upon graduation. Over 500 responses were recorded, and the top ten results have been included in the portrait. The traits are:
1. Reliable - can be trusted to do the work
