Valdosta City Schools had 6 schools participate in the district Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl competition held at the VHS Performing Arts Center on Saturday Jan 18, 2025. The Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl was started by Dekalb County Media Specialist Helen Ruffin in 1986. In the elementary competition Sallas Mahone took 1st place followed by Pinevale in 2nd place. 3rd place went to WG Nunn. In the Middle School compeition 1st place went to Valdosta Middle and 2nd place went to JL Newbern. The High School took home a participation award. We have 5 schools that will be moving on to the Regional Compeition at Valdosta State University on February 15th, 2025. The 5 schools are as follows: Sallas Mahone, Pinevale, VMS, JL Newbern, VHS.
