psat

Valdosta High School is pleased to announce that all 10th-grade students will have the opportunity to take the PSAT/NMSQT on October 30, 2024, free of charge. The PSAT/NMSQT is a key step in preparing students for the college admissions process, offering practice for the SAT® and numerous other benefits.

By taking the PSAT/NMSQT, students will receive:

  • SAT Practice: A firsthand experience of what the SAT is like.

  • Personalized Feedback: Detailed results that help students improve their skills before taking the SAT.

  • College Planning Tools: Access to free college planning resources and recommendations for Advanced Placement (AP) courses that match their strengths. AP courses allow students to earn college credit during high school, which can enhance their college applications.

  • Student Search Service: The opportunity to opt into this service, allowing colleges and universities nationwide to reach out to students who match their recruitment criteria.

Sign-Up Information:
Students who wish to take the PSAT/NMSQT can sign up by submitting a hard copy of the registration form (attached) or available in the school cafeteria at the Counselor's Corner or Guidance Department starting October 10, or by completing the online Google form shared with students and parents below. Hard copies or electronic submissions must be received by the Guidance Department no later than Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

Why Take the PSAT/NMSQT?
The PSAT/NMSQT is not only an important practice for the SAT, but it also opens doors to scholarship opportunities, including the National Merit Scholarship Program. Additionally, it offers personalized suggestions on AP courses and helps students understand where they stand in their academic journey.

Parents are encouraged to remind their children to opt into the Student Search Service during the test to connect with colleges and universities looking for students with their unique strengths and interests.

For more information or questions, please contact the VHS Guidance Department or Mrs. Cathy Nobles, Assistant Principal, at cathy.nobles@gocats.org.

Take advantage of this fantastic opportunity—it's completely free for all 10th-grade students! You must register to take the test.
