Cadets standing in line

Valdosta High School’s (VHS) NJROTC continues its tradition of shaping future leaders with notable achievements and recognitions. Seven cadets successfully graduated from the Area 8, 9, and 10 NJROTC Leadership Academy, held at Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, Georgia, from June 8-15, 2024.

The NJROTC Leadership Academy brings together the top 300 cadets from 80 high school programs across Northern Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee. The training was directed by Navy and Marine Corps JROTC Naval Science Instructors from various schools, including Senior Chief Willis and HM1 Williams of Valdosta High School. The rigorous program covered leadership, drill, academics, and fitness, selecting cadets who demonstrated a passionate commitment, positive attitude, and academic excellence.

Throughout the week-long training, the cadets showcased outstanding qualities essential for excelling as student leaders at Valdosta High School. This year’s attendees included sophomores Ja'maya Dennard and Mahkayla Lamb, and seniors Damiyas Freelove, David Singletary, Riley Wingfield, Alfonso McCloud, and William Herring (not pictured). Madley James, a four-year cadet and the commanding officer of Valdosta NJROTC, served as cadre during the week, assisting in the mentoring and training of the cadets.

Valdosta High School NJROTC remains dedicated to developing the leaders of tomorrow through exceptional training and academic excellence.
