Senior Chief Sheldon Willis is a Senior Naval Science Instructor at Valdosta High School. He was an educator for more than 6 years, and he earned his master degree from Waldorf University in Forest City, IA. After 26 years of military service, Willis retired in 2016 . Willis joined the Valdosta High School faculty in Valdosta, Georgia, where he serves as a Naval Science Instructor for grades 9-12. Under his leadership, the NJROTC has earned several awards including NJROTC National Academic Finalist, GA Esports 7A State Championship, and GA NJROTC Most Improved Unit. Additionally, Willis established several NJROTC teams including the Air Rifle, Orienteering, Drone, Cyber, and StellarXplorers Space STEM program teams.

Senior Chief Sheldon Willis was among 58 career, technical, and agricultural (CTAE) educators who were honored by the Georgia Association for Career & Technical Education (GACTE) during its 77th Annual Summer conference, which met June 10-12, 2024 at the Gas South District and Westin Hotel in Duluth, Georgia.  The conference drew over 1,700+ CTAE educators from across the State of Georgia. SCPO Sheldon Willis was named 2024 Georgia CTAE JROTC Instructor of the year winner.  Each division winner was then considered as a nominee for the corresponding state award.
