Valdosta City Schools proudly announces the appointment of Ms. Latashia Gosier as the next Principal of J.L. Newbern Middle School, effective July 2025. A dedicated educator and leader with more than 18 years of experience in middle grades education, Ms. Gosier brings a wealth of instructional expertise, leadership experience, and a deep connection to the community she now serves.
Ms. Gosier has most recently served as Assistant Principal at Valdosta Middle School, where she played a key role in instructional planning, student support, and schoolwide improvement. Prior to her leadership role, she served as Instructional Lead Teacher and Academic Coach for ELA and Math, as well as a 7th grade ELA/Math teacher—demonstrating her deep knowledge of curriculum development and teacher mentoring. Throughout her career, she has focused on building a culture of excellence, supporting student achievement, and fostering professional growth among staff.
A proud graduate of Valdosta High School, Ms. Gosier sees this new role as both a professional milestone and a personal homecoming.
“I am deeply honored to be chosen to serve as the principal of Newbern Middle School,” said Gosier. “It is a full-circle moment to return to the halls where my own middle school journey began, now entrusted with the privilege of leading this incredible school. I am excited and committed to nurturing the same sense of community, growth, and possibility that shaped me as a student. I look forward to working alongside the teachers, staff, parents, and students as we strive towards academic excellence.”
Superintendent Dr. Craig Lockhart shared his excitement about the appointment: “Ms. Gosier has shown time and time again that she leads with heart, vision, and a deep belief in the potential of every child. Her experience, dedication, and connection to our community make her the ideal leader for Newbern Middle School.”
Ms. Gosier holds an Ed.S. and leadership certification from the University of West Georgia, an M.S. in Middle Grades Math from Walden University, and a B.S. in Middle Grades Education from Valdosta State University. She is also endorsed in teacher support, coaching, and gifted education.
