Valdosta City Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Travet "Tret" Witherspoon as the new Assistant Superintendent of Operations. Dr. Witherspoon will assume this role following the retirement of the current Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Alvin Hudson.
Dr. Witherspoon embarked on his educational journey in 1997 as an 8th Grade Social Studies and Language Arts teacher at Cook County School System in Adel, GA. In 1999, he became an English Instructor and Instructor of Employability Skills at Moultrie Technical College. He furthered his experience in higher education by becoming the Assistant Director at Valdosta Technical College in 2002, advancing to Center Coordinator in 2003.
In 2004, he returned to K-12 education at Cook Elementary School as an Assistant Principal. In 2007 and following years, he has held the title of Principal at Cook Elementary School, Taliaferro County School, Scott Elementary School, Stringfellow Elementary School, and MacIntyre Park Middle School. From 2019 to present, he has been the outstanding Principal of J. L. Lomax Elementary School.
Dr. Witherspoon stated, "I am honored and humbled by the opportunity to serve in my new role. In the intricate dance of education, I step into the role of Assistant Superintendent of Operations of Valdosta City Schools, orchestrating a seamless and nurturing environment where students and staff thrive in advancing the Three V Initiative."
