Valdosta City Schools has announced the appointment of Dr. Joyce Dean as the Interim Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning. Dr. Dean brings a wealth of experience and dedication to this role, having served within the school system since 2002.
Dr. Dean's journey in education began at Valdosta High School (VHS) in August 2002, where she started as an educator in business and marketing education. Over the years, she progressed within the system, taking on roles such as Career, Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) Director and Assistant Principal of Valdosta High School. Most recently, she held the position of Director of Testing, Evaluation, and Digital Learning since August 2019.
With an impressive academic background, Dr. Dean holds a Bachelor of Science in Education in Business Education and a Master of Education in Instructional Technology from Valdosta State University. She furthered her education with an Educational Specialist in Technology Management and Administration from Nova Southeastern University and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Walden University. Dr. Dean also possesses Georgia Educator Certification in Performance-Based Leadership (K-12), Business Education (Grades 6-12), and Marketing Education (Grades 6-12).
Beyond her contributions to education, Dr. Dean has also served her country, she is a military veteran having been part of the United States Army from 1989 to 1995.
Expressing her commitment to providing high-quality educational opportunities, Dr. Dean stated, "I consider myself highly dedicated and driven to uphold the high standards of educational opportunities for students in Valdosta City Schools. As the Interim Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning, I will use sound judgment and both collaborative and independent decision-making skills to positively impact all students’ success."
Dr. Dean officially assumed her new role on April 10, 2024, following approval from the Valdosta Board of Education.
