Sherwood with Board Members

Tuesday evening, we recognized and thanked Mr. Trey Sherwood from District 5 who sat for his final meeting on the Valdosta Board of Education. This week, he completed his 3rd term, meaning he has dedicated 18 years to Valdosta City Schools.

Since January 2006, he has spent many Monday and now Tuesday nights with us, supporting the work of the superintendent and school district. We would venture to say that two of his proudest moments serving in this role came when he had the pleasure of presenting his daughters with their Valdosta High School diplomas - Abbie in 2017 and Julia in 2022.

During his tenure, he has seen the rebuild of Pinevale Elementary School, W.G. Nunn Elementary School, S.L. Mason Elementary School and Valdosta High School. He has seen the addition of athletic facilities and additional classrooms on the campus of J.L. Newbern Middle School. He has also seen the addition of the STEM Academy building on the campus of Valdosta Middle School as well as the opening and continued success of Valdosta Early College Academy. Throughout these 18 years he has worked with 5 superintendents, numerous assistant superintendents, principals and directors and with 22 different members of this board.

Mr. Sherwood, we appreciate your unwavering support of our school system and our community as a whole!
