Additional Programs & Information

Scott Craven Mentoring Program

Scott Craven Mentoring Program provides support for military kids who have a deployed parent through mentors from Moody AFB.  We know it is not just the service member who serves, but it is the entire family. Each Thursday morning, students and mentors are provided Chick-fil-A breakfast and engage in crafts, games, and holiday parties.

While in the group, the students meet other military kids going through the same challenges they are and we have a school counselor on hand at every breakfast. When the child’s parent returns home, a “doughnut ceremony” is enjoyed with the returning parent and all members of the program.  We have had a Gold Star family and that student was an honorary member until she went on to the middle school.

At the end of the school year, every student is invited on a field trip for a day at Moody AFB where fun activities and lunch are planned for everyone.

We at Sallas Mahone are thinking of you and your service member and wishing you all the best!

We appreciate all you and your family are doing for our country!

Opportunities to Volunteer

Sallas Mahone appreciates our Parent and Community volunteers!

If you are interested in volunteering, please look below to find out where you best "fit in" and make the contact to start volunteering.

Hungry at Home

The goal of Hungry at Home program is to “bridge the gap” between school and home so children do not have to be hungry while away from school. Children in need receive a backpack filled with six healthy meals and four snacks to be enjoyed during the weekend. The backpacks are discreetly distributed so the children remain anonymous. To be involved with Hungry at Home you could donate or volunteer. If you choose to donate you could donate monetarily or specific foods. Monetary donations are crucial. Food is purchased from the food bank at a low rate. It only costs $7 to feed one child for a weekend, that’s only $250 for an entire school year. Please make checks payable to “Hungry at Home.” All money goes to purchase food and backpacks. All contributions are tax deductible. If you would rather send in food, listed below are the suggested items needed. Please ensure that any food items donated is non-perishable and do not require refrigeration or a can opener. Containers should be non-glass (preferably single serving) and easy for small hands to open without assistance. The yearly food drive held in November supports the Hungry at Home Project. If you are interested or have further inquiries please contact Jennifer Gay, Sallas Mahone Hungry at Home Representative, by phone 333-8530 or email jgay@gocats.org.

PTO

In addition to Title I Parent opportunities, Sallas Mahone has an active PTO. PTO is a Parent Teacher Organization that works with teachers, staff, and students to provide extras throughout the year through various fundraisers. This organization is a decision making advocacy for Sallas Mahone Elementary. Projects have included funding our communication books, field trips, playground and PE equipment, classroom materials, digital subscriptions, and much, much more!  There are numerous events throughout the year for ways you may volunteer. PTO events and meeting dates are located in the communication book.
