Our community has experienced utter devastation following Hurricane Helene. We know many of our families have suffered catastrophic destruction to their homes and in their neighborhoods. Most of our county is still without power and our emergency management team and service personnel are begging for people to stay home and off the roads so that critical infrastructures can be repaired and power restored. Because of this, Valdosta City Schools will remain closed from Monday, September 30 through Friday, October 4, 2024.
We will continue to share important messages through our social media pages and encourage you to follow EMA Lowndes for all safety announcements, food and water distribution sites, curfew information and so much more. We want nothing more than to have everyone back at school and in a safe educational environment, however, we know that our community needs a little more time to make that happen. Thank you for your patience, we appreciate your understanding and want to encourage you all share that same grace with everyone you come in contact with as best you can throughout the next several weeks. As we keep hearing, this is a marathon, not a sprint. Together, we will come out stronger when this is all over.
